We went to the zoo Saturday and say a little play for children about the environment. We characters told us to conserve by recycling, using as little water as possible, and buying organic and sustainably grown food.
Great.
But what the characters didn't say, partly because they were looking out at an audience of small children, is that one of the best ways to conserve is for people who can bear to stop after having just one child to limit themselves to having one child.
A lot of us here who are parents try to teach our children to love rainbow diversity, and to understand that some children have a mommy and a daddy, but some children have two mommies or two daddies. We also have to teach our children that it's a selfless act of love for the world to stop after having one child.
